Juan's Journey to Thai Bodywork
Juan's journey into wellness starts just like everyone else's: being hit by a pickup truck riding a bicycle in 2010! His hip and ankle now contain screws and plates as a gentle reminder of that pivotal day.
During the recovery process, he began taking yoga classes. The classes helped him regain flexibility and minimize the hip pain. After experiencing the mobility benefits of yoga, he decided to became a yoga instructor to help other people move better.
He began his Yoga Teacher training in 2015 in Naperville at Sundari Power Yoga. One of the training weekends had a guest instructor who knew select Thai bodywork. He instantly became fascinated with the mobility benefit potential!
In 2016, he learned of Thai Bodywork School of Thai Massage (now called Coaching the Body Institute) in Evanston, IL as an ideal program which combined modern trigger point therapy and traditional Thai bodywork poses for a powerful and effective modality. He became certified as a Thai Bodywork Practitioner in September 2016.
In 2021, he enrolled at School of Holistic Massage and Reflexology (aka SOHMAR) in Downer's Grove, IL in their Massage Certification Program. There he gained additional skills to perform table massages using more traditional massage techniques. He graduated in 2022 and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2023.
In his spare time, limited as it may be, he enjoys disc golfing, ballroom dancing, and travelling. He also has a personal goal of one day riding his bicycle across the country (with more safety measures of course).
